I
am writing in reference to the outstanding tech support and service provided to
our office (Investment Office in Sioux Falls) from BIT on both Friday, January
7th and Monday January 10th. After discovering that our roof was leaking water
into our computer equipment room, we called the Help Desk in Pierre and
explained the situation to them. I was then contacted by Bob Ensz at the Sioux
Falls BIT office and he sent out Dave Cole to get an estimate of possible damage
and to determine what our next steps should be. Dave was very courteous
and aware of our need to have the network up as soon as possible. On Monday
morning Dave was in early to help get our network back up so that we could get
back to work. On behalf of the Investment Office staff I would just like to
pass on a big "thank you" to Dave, Bob and the rest of the BIT staff for their
help. We appreciate BIT going out of their way to return us to normal working
conditions as soon as possible. |

I just wanted to write a note to thank you for helping get the Public WLAN up
and running. It is working very well and the public lobbies are lined with
people using their notebooks on the WLAN. We have 26 users to date and I believe
we will have more as the current crop of users sell the benefits.
Having the two of you come to the meeting and work with several of the main
players was very important to making this project a developing success. I
appreciate your technical abilities and your patience. Thanks for your help.

I was
recently interviewing for a vacant accountant position and the
top candidate was from Phoenix, AZ. Our first interview was
conducted by telephone and we weren't comfortable offering the
position without a face-to-face interview. As the cost of
transportation for a second interview for this level of position
was fairly prohibitive, we utilized a new process in conducting
the second interview and arranged for a face-to-face interview
via the DDN. The interview went very well (no technical
glitches) and the use of the DDN was very beneficial. We hired
the person for the position.
Thanks for
making this technology available for state personnel use!!!

Norm did an EXCELLENT job of programming the insight and it would
be nice for him to see some of our users' reactions to it. He certainly deserves
to receive his fair share of acknowledgement and credit for all the hard work
and talent he put into this project. It certainly COULD NOT have been
accomplished with out Norm!

“I had a most interesting
call from the CA SOS office. For a variety of political reasons, they are just
now starting on their HAVA voter reg system….the Department of Justice had told
the CA folks to talk to me about how to put together an efficient statewide
system. After my conversation with them, they asked for a tech person who could
perhaps talk to one of their tech folks. Because of your leadership role in
developing this system – and wouldn’t it be cool of CA used our pattern – I gave
them your name and phone number….” |

continue with the conversion project…I want to thank each of you again for your
contribution is converting the Department of Labor TKS to time study rules. I
appreciate you willingness to answer my questions, some of which were probably
asked more than once. Thanks to your staff or co-workers that contributed as
well. Without your expertise and assistance this could not have been possible.
I have had some calls, which I expected. Even had one compliment, but that
should go to you folks. I believe this is an improvement and is vital to the
Department of Labor’s conversion to a single accounting system” |

“Thank you for your persistence in getting the SSA verification process
completed. The elimination of so many entries on our manual table will save Jen
a lot of time and the ability to get “accurate” verification from SSA will only
improve the accuracy of our voter registration list. I am really excited about
this program!....While Ellsworth clearly gets top billing for the story of the
day, today was a major step forward for our voter registration system. Thank
You!!”

I had an old Compaq Proliant Server go down yesterday and called BIT for help
and possibly some components to get the server up and running. I wanted to
express my appreciation and say thank you for the assistance, timely response,
and professionalism of the BIT crew. Turns out it was a main board that was bad
and Golden West had the part I needed but I am still very impressed with the
helped I received from everyone at BIT. Again Thank You.

If you could pass on my (our) thanks to BIT Commissioner Doll for the use and
abuse of his staff in getting the Vietnam War Memorial Dedication web project
off the ground, specifically Donelle Beynon and Kevin Freestone. We could have
not gotten the database connectivity work done without Donelle's continuing
help, and she's been right at our disposal in fixing the inevitable glitches and
last minute updates.
Kevin has also gone above and beyond his normal job duties in converting our
slideshow from being DHTML based to Flash based, cutting the load times to a
fraction of what they were, and helping it be a more professional and polished
product. And while we got through OK on taking it live, it was appreciated to
have him on call over this past weekend "just in case."

Otto Doll, Chief Information Officer, BIT, and Jerry Gabert, State Radio, BIT |
Gary M. Holst, Special Agent in Charge, Kansas City Regional Office, Kansas City, MO 64106 |
On behalf of the Office of Investigations for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, I would like to thank you and your department for your professionalism and assistance with the programming of our portable Motorola radios.
Special Agent Corey Dumdei approached Bureau of Information and Telecommunications (BIT) technician Jerry Gabert about the programming of our portable radios in order to have communications with South Dakota State Radio. Mr. Gabert agreed to program the radios at no charge.
At a later date, SA Dumdei again approached Mr. Gabert concerning some frequency additions based on user agreements for access to separate State’s communications network and again Mr. Gabert agreed to program the radios.
Not only was Mr. Gabert able to accurately program the portable radios, he was able to do so within a very short period of time while handling his current workload.
Since Mr. Gabert has programmed our portable radios, the Agents assigned to South Dakota, North Dakota, and Iowa have been able to effectively communicate with their respective State Radio network, when prior to this, there was no available means of communicating with other law enforcement agencies via radio.
In a time where law enforcement communications is critical to each department and agency’s mission, it is comforting to know that Mr. Gabert and the South Dakota Bureau of Information Technology, as well as South Dakota State Radio, are solidifying the Federal and State Law Enforcement bonds.
I would like to thank Mr. Gabert and the BIT for their outstanding professionalism and look forward to a continued working relationship with your department.”
