Chapter 7
PC and Client/Server Guidelines and
Procedures
This document is intended to provide basic guidelines to be
followed by BIT developers in the construction of PC or client/server
applications. A discussion of the BIT
applications server is followed by high level user interface guidelines. Also included are naming standards and conventions
for each particular product. These are
guidelines and it is recognized that they will not apply in all situations. It is not cost effective to retroactively apply
these conventions to systems already developed or to systems acquired from outside
sources. However, it is strongly recommended
that the conventions in this document be followed for new systems developed by BIT. These guidelines, to the fullest extent possible,
incorporate conventions and naming standards that are widely adhered to in the industry by
developers using the particular products discussed. The
user interface guidelines are largely taken from Microsofts own recommendations for
the Windows interface. Conformance to the
guidelines in this document will ensure a consistency across BIT developed applications,
and very likely a high degree of consistency with applications developed outside of BIT.
